Built in 1886 by architect Peter R. Schmidt for William Haas the house withstood the 1906 Earthquake with only slight damage. The fire that followed and destroyed 40% of San Francisco forced the family to evacuate to Lafayette Park and later temporarily move to Oakland. In 1928 an addition was built over a garage. The house is primarily a Queen Anne style. Three generations of the Haas and Lilienthal descendents lived in house until it was donated to The Foundation for San Francisco’s Architectural Heritage. It was opened for public tours in 1972.
