These past four months have been a challenge and we thank you for your continued support of our community and of each other.
As I shared with you in a VoiceFriend message earlier this week, we started our scheduled self-testing of residents and staff at Aldersly. This approach was implemented as the tracking of signs and symptoms of the virus does not address asymptomatic carriers of the COVID-19 virus. All residents and staff who have been tested should continue to limit their interaction with people outside of Aldersly. Staff should strictly go from home to work only until we have received your results. Additional people testing positive will be quarantined appropriately.
We have asked people to stay home when even slightly ill; restricted access of people coming into the community; promoted hand washing; implemented face coverings; cancelled indoor group activities and dining and implemented shelter-in-place guidelines. However, our greatest risk to residents and staff remains the contracting of the disease from a source outside of Aldersly. Even with all the steps we have taken, I have received reports of some staff and family members being exposed to the virus and reporting positive test results for COVID-19. So please take care of yourselves when you are out in public or around other people.
Based on the state and county increase in positive cases we have halted our phasing process to reopen our community. You will observe that Aldersly will be continuing our efforts for physical distancing, face coverings, common area cleanings and hand washing. We will continue to serve residents’ meals in their apartments and we will continue to limit group activities to only outside small groups.
I know you are all eager to be with one another, so I do have some good news to share. We have received partitions for visitor access in the Health Center and Assisted Living. This would allow visitation to occur in each area and a more open schedule to see residents in all areas. I will be sending updated visitation guidelines next week, once these partitions are installed and we have set up our protocols.
In the event we experience a change of positive coronavirus cases in our community, it may be necessary to revert to more stringent precautionary measures. However, I am hopeful we all are doing everything to avoid going backwards.
Please reach out to the front desk with questions you may have. We are fortunate to be a part of a special community and I’m proud of our team and what we have accomplished together. Take care of yourselves and one another.
